Diablo 3: "Show Some Class!"

Instructions:

 

With BlizzCon13' coming later this year and the real possibility of having an expansion shown one of the new things could be is a new class. That's what I want to see from you! I want you to step up to the plate and create a new class and a few things to go along with it.

 

What I require at minimum (more couldn't hurt):

 

1. Class Name*
2. Archetype style (caster, ranged, healing, tank, hybrid)
3. At least 3 unique spells and/or abilities, but more are always welcomed.**
4. Any artwork or lore you like behind it (if you can draw great, if not provide some lore to it)

 

*Can be named anything but keep it clean.

**Can model your spells after D1, D2, or really anything out there, but I'm looking for new ways to do old things. Copying may not win me over.

 

  • The contest is open to US and Non-US residents.
  • You can only have one entry, BUT YOU CAN EDIT YOUR POST any amount of times before the end of the contest.
  • Contest starts Thursday January 10th, and goes to Thursday January 17th. I will pick a winner on the 18th and announce him or her that day.
  • Please post all submissions in this thread.

Class Name: Alchemist (a.k. Bountyhunter)
Archetype style: Melee / Tank

 

 

Intro

Vampires do exist, and their minions of walking undead is just a fragment of their power. I come from the dwelling "Wiedergeburt", only a few are left scattered around the sanctuary from our clan. We have heard of this day, when the heaven tremble and a giant glow will fall to our realm. The greatest of all the evils have what we need to end Dirgest, the everlasting vampire with one single blow with our alchemy mixture.

 

The rain is coming, and it will be red!

 

 

Lore

The Wiedergeburt is german and means Rebirth, a collection of human bountyhunter alchemist who fuse their whips and holy crosses with silver and exploding powder. If the zombies are walking, the demons may have wake them, but they are controlled by vampires. In later days announcement of a great battle merged in the sky and as the legacy speaks "The rain will be red", the last two of the greates warriors from the Clan Wiedergeburt will hunt down Dirgest, the leader of the Vampire cult to drive the silver deep into his soul and seal his fate forever. Many think Wiedergeburt's are vampires, this is however wrong. They have made some sacrifices before and darker magic have embraced them with bloodmagic, something they try to hide and hard to forget. It will be proven as a great gift in their struggle. The warriors in the clan live as a traveling ghosts who make mney by doing townsfolk favours. Bigger sums are sent back to their family or to other families in their realm.

 

 

Weapons of choice

A Weidergeburt is equiped with alchemist powder, silver and whip but can use a scythe, scepter or polearm due to its range. The best part is that this class love 1-hand and shield.

 

 

Spells / Abilities (examples)

 

Alchemistry

- Imbue weapon with explosive powder to transfer attacks into BOOM. Chance 10%. Runes may shift exlopsions to fire, poison, frozen etc.
- Expand: Weapon have a longer arm, hitting enemies far away (almost like deadly reach).

- Sirens Gift: Fearsome scream electrify the air with thundercloud, making it light up and shock enemies around you.
- Reincarnate: After a clouding poff powder the enemies close to you get struck by you. This attack goes visually so fast that it looks like 2 other transparant pale blue mirrored images of yourself is hitting 3x times same attack. Cooldown.

 

Bloodmagic

- Reverse blood: Swap Health with Darkblood. Cooldown 30 sec.

- River of Pain: Damage from affixes of Champions and Rare sets better focus and force darkblood to grow faster. X seconds.
- Shapeshift: Into a beast in x seconds that ignore pain and ordinary weapons.
- Biting Gift: Combo attack with blood-dripping weapon with a final blow of your shield.
- Rain: After a kill with this attack there is a chance of corpse explode and rain magical blood (bloodmagic) in radius of X around the body.

 

Panzer

- Ironskin: Harden your skin for x% armor in x seconds.
- Thrust: Thrust with your shield to paralize enemies.
- Shielder: Use shield as an boomerang with ironskin while it flyes away and back again.
- Bat thorns: higher % on damage from hitting enemies.

- Needle: Push out thorns from your armor, doing extra damage for x seconds.

 

 

Resource: Darkblood

The source works almost like Demon Hunters source except with some huge twists.


First of, both Health (blood) and resource (darkblood) regenerate slowly. They can swap, if you need more darkblood you may take from health and vice versa. The resource will be filled if you find health potions which leads us to use double amount of healthglobes on the road then needed for any other class. Using signature skills like Imbue weapon, expand and panzer do take much of the resource or none of the darkblood. Some other skills take a lot or could even drain it.

 

 

Why do you want to have this class?

1. It's a shield-based half-ranged shapeshifting necromantic holy warrior that struggle between light and dark.
2. It's power are unique in a way that it feels like the old Diablo 2 classes: Necromancer + Druid + Paladin, which fills the gap.
3. Original new weapon that only this warrior can wield: The whip. And a better use of shield.. And a scythe / polearm / scepter.
4. Alchemy is based out of powders and metallic substance. Not firearms!
5. Source may be something similar of a Demon Hunter but it feels original.

Class Name: Raider (or Blood Raider, Blood Corsair)

Archetype style: Fast Dual wielder Melee/Ranged Class (Hybrid Class)

 

Intro:

A new class designed to use a new type of weapon, Katars (I know it's almost as fist weapons keep reading for explanation), a combination between the effects and characteristics of daggers and fist weapons, this new two-handed weapon will help you hold multiple knives in each hand (not just one (mostly an opportunity for designers to create some good looking and stylished weapons)), the new weapon will be the fastest and ligthier, they can also dual wield swords and daggers and even use a bow for range purposes and the use of specific skills, in order to deal the fastest damage possible they wear light armors.

 

Skills:

-Slash: Deadly Katar attack for 80-90% damage of the main weapon that reduces enemy's defense by 20% for 1 minute.

-Dance of the knives/Dancing knives: Become a tornado of destruction spinning and dealing for 80% damage of your main weapon (Katar required) to all the enemies around you for 10 seconds, has a 15% chance to last 20 seconds and deal 100% damage of your main weapon.

-Unexpected/Sudden Death (Passive): Gain a bonus based on the weapon type of your main hand weapon:

                                                                   Katar: 10% increased damage and 5% increased attack speed

                                                                   Swords/daggers: 45% increased critical hit damge and 5% increased critical hit chance, when you dual wield swords or daggers the critical hit chance increases by 10% but you no longer receive and increased critical hit damage.

                                                                   Bow: 5% increased attack speed and 5% increased hit chance.

-Treacherous blow (Passive): If you spend more than 1 minute without attacking, when wielding Katars your weapon can't be seen by other players, when dealing damage your weapon becomes visible and your first attack has a 100% chance of dealing a critical hit, if you receive damage you counterattack with a critical hit.

Lore:

Known for others as treacherous bad-manners pirates, the biggest crew of raiders belonged to Captain Coldfir "Bloody Hands" Ravendare, known by every citizen in every town close to the seas, feared by all for their deadly skills and their huge number, yet they never dared to sail into deep sea for the legends every sailor knew, they respected their leaders and superiors and honored their members who would die in battle, they don't fear dead and embrace death with some kind of joy in their face, for several years no one ever dared to betray Captain Coldfir, they are loyal only to their own crew.

 

Their company seemed to grow endlessly until the day diablo minions attacked, the seas became a nightmare and the huge feared number of raiders decreased rapidly, every boat owned by the company became wreckage under the cold waters where the battle had place, except for one last ship, the Captain's ship, it resisted every attack against them, until the horrible creature (probably a new boss in the expansion) appeared, bigger than a whale, more deadly than a shark and probably as evil as the one who created it (Diablo), every member of Coldfir's crew looked at their Captain's bravery when he tried to face the horrible creature and sacrifice himself for the safety of their crew, after watching their Captain, every single person aboard grabbed their weapons and fought the creatures back to the hell they came from, the minions returned to the deep seas and the ship barely managed to reach the shore, now without a captain only a few remain, they are not scared of what's coming and they swear the death of most of their members won't be in vain, using the skills they learned while in service they will now venture into the lands of Sanctuary to avenge their fallen comrades, kill every demonic creature that appears in their way to execute the creature that murdered their captain and obliterated their crew, as well as the creator and leader of the demonic forces, separating and following different paths their live under the same one law, only and always respect the memory of those who died for the lifes of the Raiders.

 

Notes and inspirations:

Big part of the lore came from H. P. Lovecraft stories (Cthulhu and related stories were a big inspiration) and classic horror movies as well as classic and modern adventure movies (specially those related to travels on the seas and/or pirates/corsairs), also some ideas for the skills came from playing other MMORPG and maybe other videogames, of course I tried to be the most original possible with the names and sticking to the way of naming skills in Diablo 3, even though Blood Raiders sounds similar to Blood Elves I didn't take the name from Warcraft 3 or WoW (that's why the main name is without Blood, altough Blood sounds nice in my opinion, I'll try to think other names), Elves started using Blood because of the blood of their brothers, I use Blood to represent their thirst and joy for blood and killing :)

 

I'll try to add more and correct spelling mistakes as soon as I find some, english is not my main...

CLASS NAME: Specter

ARCHETYPE STYLE: Agile Melee Caster

 

INTRO

Specter has a unique ability to temporarily steal powerful skills or runes from other player’s characters or monsters and use them to aid her in combat. Depending on the element of the stolen abilities she uses more often, it allows her to shift around her powers for a choice between greater damage, AOE, survivability, buff duration or speed (explained in Weapon section). Another distinct feature is her ability to silently climb/crawl on walls and jump between trees and similar terrain, providing her with a very different escape mechanic or surprise attack capabilities.

 

LORE

Decades ago, she was famous among the wealthy merchants and noblemen of Sanctuary for robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. Due to the people not being able to figure out her true identity, she was named "Specter".

 

Throughout Sanctuary, the woman known as Specter was highly respected. However, fate led her to meet the Prince of Khanduras, Aidan while trying to steal a great treasure from Tristram. She kept watch of the prince from afar and secretly fell in love with him as she witnessed his bravery in dispatching the demons from Tristram. However, the eventual death of the possessed Aidan caused her to become twisted and vicious. She disappeared from Sanctuary and began to personally train and utilize a band of brainwashed vigilantes to act as her spies around Sanctuary, bitter for vengeance against those who were to be blamed for her one true love’s death.

 

Twenty years later, Archangel Tyrael returns to Sanctuary as a mortal. Having deemed the angel responsible, her band of Specters infiltrates New Tristram to seek revenge. A friend who was once greatly honoured in Sanctuary has returned from the shadows, but only to bring nightmare to its people.

 

SKILLS

Skill Steal

  • Temporarily steals a target player or monster’s skill/rune for your own use. The target may not use that skill/rune until the effect wears off, reducing the enemy’s effectiveness in combat. This ability more importantly allows you to mix and match any skill/rune you have stolen, giving the player a near infinite combination of possibilities to experiment.
  • For example, you can chain Cyclone_Strike.png Cyclone Strike stolen from a Monk, Frost_Nova.png Frost Nova stolen from a Wizard and Earthquake.png Earthquake stolen from a Barbarian by first pulling all enemies within 24 yards with Cyclone Strike then freeze them in place for 3 seconds with Frost Nova and finally use Earthquake to deal them massive damage for the final blow.

Multi-Prong Slash

  • Immediately leaps behind an enemy target dealing physical damage.  If the player uses Multi-Prong Slash again within 2 seconds targeting another nearby enemy it will deal additional stackable bonus physical damage each time, allowing up to 5 chained Multi-Prong Slashes. This skill will promote players to move around the field while in combat and reward players with fast reactions. Being able to jump between enemies, means it's easier for you to Skill Steal from different targets.

Shadow Dash

  • Increases your movement speed for 10 seconds and periodically creates after-images behind you as you move in combat. Enemies will target your after-images before they will target you, increases your survivability different than traditional means.

 

PASSIVE

Shadow Crawl

  • Allows Specter to climb/crawl on walls or jump between trees, making it temporarily invulnerable to most melee attacks and allowing it to escape from surrounds or dangerous attacks. Shadow Crawl also allows players to quietly scout and approach an enemy with an ambush from a position they would least expect.

WEAPON

Elemental-Changing Daggers

Specter’s weapon of choice are a wide range of elemental-imbued daggers that constantly changes form. Your power shifts depending on the elemental skill you are using more often. A shift towards one element means a shift away from other elements, thus it is wise to alternate between elements of your skills. Hint: Use in combination with Skill Steal to be able to cast a variety of different elemental abilities.

  • The more fire-elemental skills you use, the more AOE your skills will have.
  • The more lightning-elemental skills you use, the more damage your skills will deal.
  • The more physical skills you use, the more armor you will have.
  • The more cold-elemental skills you use, the longer duration your buffs will last.
  • The more poison-elemental skills you use, the lower the cooldown of your skills will be.
  • The more arcane/holy-elemental skills you use, the faster attack and movement speed your character will have.

 

Pros:

  • Able to steal skills or runes, giving a near infinite combination of playstyles and abilities. No two fights with Specter will be the same.
  • Depending on what element of skills you are using more often, your damage, AOE, cooldown, survibility, speed, etc. will shift around (which each element representing a power). It creates choice for players to decide which elemental abilities you would want to Skill Steal next.
  • Can climb/crawl on walls, jump between trees and utilize the terrain, making it one of the most agile class.
  • Can wield both magic and physical skills, depending on what skills or runes you steal.

Cons:

  • Low life and armor, relies on your reaction to dash around in combat to avoid damage.
  • Need to understand about the other player’s characters or monster’s skill sets to more effective utilize your stolen skills or runes.

Class Name: Dragoon
Archetype style: Melee / Support

 

Intro

Dragoons have the ability to change forms between "Angelic" or "Demonic" Aspects, each with a different set of 6 skills and 3 passives, allowing players to swap with a different set of abilities while retaining their Valors.

Their class-unique equipment is a Mount, instead of a standard off-hand. Provides Dragoons with increased movement speed and dodge.

 

Lore

During the Great Conflict, many angels have been captured and been twisted. While most became a complete corrupt shadow of their former self, but some strong enough are able to retain their sense of justice and wisdom. The former angels, whom they call themselves Dragoons, are empowered with both angelic and demonic powers, making them neither angel nor demon. Being that the Great Heavens nor Hell are no longer their home, they struggle to find a place that they truly belong.

 

Weapons/Offhand

The Dragoon class wields a 1-hand class-unique lance or polearm. Instead of a standard off-hand, the slot is used for equipping class-unique "Mounts". These mounts ranges from horses, leopards or even fearsome dragons. While a Dragoon is using a mount, movement speed is calculated from any movement speed bonus from the mount instead of from the boots.

 

 

Spells / Abilities (General)

-Dragoons can change their aspects at any time between "Angelic" or "Demonic", each having 6 abilities + 3 passives the players chose prior to combat. Note, changing between aspects do not cause you to lose your Nephalem Valors. This effectively means your character can swap between 2 different full sets of skills you chose during combat.

 

Spells / Abilities (Angelic Aspect)

-Holy Retribution: Blasts a wave around itself dealing damage to all nearby enemy equal to all the damage it took within the last 5 seconds.

-Illuminate: Shoots out a wave of light, healing any allies and damaging any enemies.

 

Spells / Abilities (Demonic Aspect)

-Enduring Pain: Quickly deals damage to a target enemy proportional to the life you are missing.

-Demonic Blow: Marks a target enemy, each time the target enemy takes damage, any future damage against it is greatly amplified.

 

Why this class?

1. Solves complaints of not being able to change your abilities without losing valors by allowing you to change between Angelic or Demonic Aspect each with a different set of 6 skills and 3 passives.
2. Unique off-hand (Mount) allowing you to travel faster in Sanctuary.

I didn't have time to finish it up, so I figured I'd post what I do have. If I had a bit more time to finish it I'd have added runes for all the abilities and thought of some more passives. This'll have to do, though.

Necromancer - Diablo 3 Style

Archetype: Caster/Summoner

Two main damage types: Physical from bone spells and poison from.. poison... spells... Alternative damage
        types available through summons.

Resource Systems

    Souls:
        Limit of XX souls at any one time. Killing an enemy unit grants a soul which can
        then be used for summoning. Souls are not consumed until the summoned creature associated
        with the soul(s) is gone. They are instead 'in use'. The resource globe will depict this
        by filling up once to denote vacant souls(possibly coloring the resource "liquid" white),
        then darkening a portion of the resource bar to denote souls that are currently in use.

        Possibly all abilities cooldown-oriented or consume anywhere from a single to several
        souls. If taking that route, it would be able to consume souls in use(using the oldest
        summon available). Would have good flow with continuosly killing things and harvesting
        their souls to continue being able to summon and use bone and poison magic.

Abilities

    Primary
        
        Poison Bolt
            Launches an orb of poisonous death causing xx% weapon damage initially and an
            additional xx% over x seconds.

        Bone Spear
            Launches a bone spear that damages for xx% weapon damage.
        
        Teeth
            Fires three wiggling bone projectiles in a cone that deal xx% weapon damage.

        Bone Spirit
            Sends a slow-moving, homing Bone Spirit missile to seek out and destroy enemies.
            Can manually target, otherwise the Bone Spirit will automatically seek out the
            closest/weakest enemy. Deals xx% damage.

    Secondary

        Poison Nova
            Creates a poison nova at the target location that causes enemies to become
            poisoned, taking xx% damage over x seconds.

        Corpse Explosion
            Causes a nearby corpse to explode, dealing xx% damage to enemies in the area.

        Sacrifice
            Sacrifices the targeted summon or nearest summon to targeted location to heal
            you.

    Curses

        Iron Maiden
            Causes the enemy to deal a percentage of the physical damage they deal to
            themselves.

        Life Tap
            Causes allies to heal from their attacks and abilities when attacking a mob
            afflicted by Life Tap. (% Life Steal)

        Attract
            Enemies will attack any other enemies afflicted by Attract. It will not
            cause the enemy to aid the caster in combat.

        Decrepify
            Lowers attack and movement speed by a percentage for a duration.

    Bone/Poison

        Bone Armor
            Absorbs xx damage.

        Poison Dagger
            Adds a poison over time effect to your attacks.

        Bone Wall
            Creates a wall of bone that blocks enemies. Can be attacked to be destroyed.

        Bone Prison
            Surrounds a unit in a prison of bone. Can be attacked to be destroyed.

    Summoning

        All Summoning skills will 'use' souls. Souls that are in use will not be used for any spells
        that require souls unless no other souls are left. Using souls that are currently in use
        destroys the summon using said souls. They would scale with your offensive and

        defensive stats.

        Raise Skeleton
            Summons a skeleton to aid you in combat and deals xx% weapon damage. Lasts
            for a duration.

        Summon Golem
            Summons a golem to fight at your side, dealing xx% of your weapon damage.
            Has a small chance to stun enemies on hit. Lasts for a duration.

        Raise Skeletal Mage
            Summons a spell-casting skeleton to destroy your enemies. Lasts for a duration.

        Revive
            Revives a fallen enemy to serve you in death. Lasts for a short duration.

    Necromantic Arts

        Soul Reclamation
            Reclaims the souls of your summoned allies, causing your occupied souls to become
            free. The bodies will remain reanimated for a time. Allows you to essentially,
            however temporarily exceed the maximum number of summons.

        Bone Salvo
            Causes all currently summoned minions to explode into a barrage of bone that will
            cause xx% physical damage initially and an additional xx% bleed damage over
            x seconds. Consumes all souls in use.


    Passives

        Summoner
            Increases maximum soul capacity by xx.  (Essentially allows for a higher maximum
            number of summons.)

        Soul Eater
            Generates x souls every x seconds.  (Had PVP in mind when I thought of this.)


Ideas

Immolated skeleton runes, AoE DoT essentially like sweeping wind.

A summoner Necromancer would have a certain flow to its gameplay where they would be constantly summoning
new undead/golems which would kill foes which would generate souls for the Necromancer which they would
then use to summon more undead/golems.

 

Not much in the way of lore here since they're already pretty established in the world of Diablo.

Got a little hic-uped on picking the winners,

 

1st place Enkeria (Signed D3:CE and Mini Tyrael Statue)

2nd place Jaetch, from Diablofans thread (Signed D3:CE)

3rd place michlichwitch (Mini Tyrael Statue)

 

I added in 2nd and third place because of the sheer amount of effort everyone put in, I will be compiling a word doc of all the classes you came up with and sending it in to Blizzard : D

 

Will be contacting for address tonight/tomorrow. Be on the look out for them!

 

As always, thats to moderating team for allowing me to post the contest!

@ Enkeria, open in sense of not being factory wrapped, yes. Will take care wrapping for shipment though.
